Squidda wraps around the sound
Deep in a musty Provincetown basement, surrounded by the sort of flotsam and jetsam that tends to accumulate in a Provincetown basement, late on a Tuesday night, four friends gather around a small refrigerator filled with Miller High Life to discuss the finer points of the Motley Crue song “Kickstart My Heart.”
With a noticeable absence of sheet music, and in the company of a portable CD player and some unintelligible explanations about the song’s finer points, these four local boys begin the metamorphosis from local workmen to the myth, the legend, the band — Squidda.
Catch them while they’re fresh. The boys of Squidda — Tom Magar, Reid Emmerich, Josiah Mayo and Jesse Cartwright — will be making several appearances in upcoming months, including gigs at The Beachcomber, Flying Fish, Squealing Pig and several well-known, questionably legal local gatherings. An Aug. 1 gig is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Wicked Oyster in Wellfleet. Check out their MySpace profile at www.myspace.com/squiddaband.
