Sewer expansion construction begins
Banner Daily Update posted Tues. May 22
PROVINCETOWN – Construction began this week on the long-awaited sewer expansion plan in the Shank Painter Road basin area and will last through December.
Ron Gamella, Provincetown wastewater administrator, said construction crews began work at the corner of Shank Painter Road and Bradford Street on Monday, closing that intersection during the day for two days. Work will move west from that location to Franklin Street but Bradford Street will be reopened.
In addition, the municipal parking lot next to the fire station will remain closed for four to six weeks to install a pumping station at the back of the lot.
Gamella said work crews would install sewer pipes from Brown to Pleasant streets beginning in July and lasting through November. Another crew working from Court Street to parts of Shank Painter Road will be working from July to October.
In addition, side streets between Commercial and Bradford streets from Central to Atlantic will be under construction from October to December. The main sewer lines along Shank Painter Road will be installed from May to August.
Traffic is likely to be disrupted in these areas at times.
The Banner will update road closings as future information becomes available.- PS
