Memorial Day Weekend shows

One thing nobody can complain about this weekend is a lack of places to go and acts to see from cabaret and drag to rock and comedy. There’s even some surf guitar out there.

In Provincetown the Art House gets its season underway with Poppy Champlin, the Wau Wau Sisters, All the King’s Men and Miss Richfield. Vixen has the Lizzie Borden Band and Mimi Gonzales. The Pied Bar has Lori Michaels song and dance show, Wild Child and theme parties — Scanty Panty and Bra Party.

Over at the Crown & Anchor Kate Clinton does her comedy show and music fans can catch Karen Grenier and Mary Callanan and Brian Patton. Randy Roberts romps through his drag show bringing some of his favorite legends to life. The Post Office Cabaret has Bitch, Alix Olson, Jennie McNulty and the ever popular Suzanne Westenhoefer. The Squealing Pig has M-Shanghi String Band and Governor Bradford has karaoke.

The first concert of the summer in the Sundays @ 5 series at the UU Meetinghouse features performers who will be appearing in concerts throughout the rest of the season. This first concert always benefits the Instrument Trust Maintenance Fund.

Plenty of dancing with DJs at the A-House, Crown, Vixen and the Pied.

There is a benefit dance for Helping Our Women on Saturday at the VFW on Jerome Smith Road. It’s a townie event that goes on all winter but visitors are more than welcome to check out the fun.

Down the road, the Beachcomber has a weekend blowout with Dick Dale, surf guitar legend on Saturday, The Incredible Casuals and Lez Zeppelin on Sunday. They finish up the long weekend with John Brown’s Body on Monday.

In Eastham look for action at The Beach Break Inn and Seadog Restaurant & Saloon. In Orleans the party is underway at Coast, Joe’s Beach Road Bar & Grille and Land Ho. The Rip It Ups play at Joe’s on Saturday, Sara Swain on Monday. The Ho has Torn to Shreds on Saturday.

In addition, there’s plenty of places with piano bars and a good people watching.
