Two separate incidents — a B&E at Big Vin’s Liquors and a car versus building event — had Provincetown police hopping in the predawn hours of Sunday morning.
The first incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when a man broke a window at Big Vin’s Liquors on Commercial Street. Witnesses saw the man taking items from the store and chased the suspect but he escaped on foot.
Police Sgt. Carrie Benjamin said the police were able to quickly locate and apprehend the man later identified at Seth Hamblin, 22, of North Falmouth.
Hamblin faces a variety of charges including breaking and entering in the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony, larceny from a building, assault with a deadly weapon (tire iron) and malicious destruction of property over $200.
Sgt. Benjamin said it is possible that Hamblin may face other charges as well as police continue their investigation into his actions. Hamblin allegedly threatened witnesses and claimed to have a gun. No gun was found when he was arrested. A tire iron believed to be what he used to break the window was recovered.
Truro police assisted in the arrest.
Hamblin is being held at the Provincetown police station on $10,000 cash bail. He will be transported to the Barnstable House of Correction later today and will be arraigned in Orleans District Court on Tuesday.
Around 5:30 a.m. police received calls about a car hitting a house and fence in the 500 block of Commercial Street in the far east end of town. Police responded and found a Mercedes sedan with New York plates close to Michael Shay’s restaurant on Bradford Street.
Police gave the driver, David M. Marcelline, 39, of New York, New York, a field sobriety test and arrested him for operating under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, driving to endanger and marked lanes violation.
When police first approached the car to talk to Marcelline they observed what appeared to be illegal drugs on the front seat. Those drugs were also seized. Marcelline has also been charged with illegal possession of class B drugs (cocaine) and illegal possession of class D drugs (marijuana).
Marcelline was later released on his own recognizance. He will be arraigned on Tuesday in Orleans District Court.
