Limos and rental tuxes were in short supply after the Class of 2007 lined up its rides and outfits. Following tradition, many of the youngsters headed over to Drummer Boy Park in Brewster in the late afternoon where other park goers were treated to the sight of lines of stretch limos and young men and women looking more like they were at a move premiere than a park on Cape Cod.
Eventually the limos — and a variety of other smooth rides from vintage Mustang convertibles to RVs — started to crawl up to the portico at the Sheraton. Car doors opened on dark interiors and booming music as smiling prom-bound kids stepped out and did the walk of fame through the crowd of family and friends that lined the walkway into the hotel.
Inside, balloons were everywhere and after advisors did a quick check-in the next step was the ballroom all done up in this year’s theme, Disco Inferno. The DJ kept it going with music and videos while the hot buffet got laid out. There were white linens, glitter, more balloons and a dance floor waiting for action.
It didn’t take the girls long to get on the floor and the guys were pulled into the mix quickly. The night rolled on and the Prom Court was announced with Kelsey MacDonald named queen and Sam Silver named king. Other court members included Brian Morton, Seth Tringale, Nicole Young,, Kari Jorgensen, Theresa Vient and Mark Realbuto.
Class advisors say this class not only looks good, it does good. The students have done a lot of community service and volunteer work throughout their high school career and they made that ethic part of their prom night. Instead of spending $400 on weights for the myriad of balloons, the kids opted to buy canned goods and cover them in gauze wrappings. After the prom, those were delivered to the food pantry.
