PROVINCETOWN – An intensive investigation by both local police and the Barnstable County Police Department led to the arrest Monday of two men and a woman suspected of a brazen smash and grab jewelry store robbery that netted them approximately $65,000 in high-end rings and earrings.

The robbery, the largest in Provincetown in recent memory, took place April 25th at Christina’s Jewelry & Gifts, 215 Commercial St. At the time police suspected at least two thieves were involved, one who smashed a side window and entered the store and another who went to the front of the store, broke the window and scooped out all the jewelry in the display. Although police responded within 90 seconds of the alarm being triggered, the thieves had already fled by the time officers arrived on the scene.

It now appears there was a third accomplice who drove the get-away car, according to police. Arrested Monday were Diane Guay, 28, of South Yarmouth, Anthony Rose, Jr., 34, of Hyannis, and Anthony Diaz, 27, of Hyannis. Guay, suspected of being the driver of the car used by the suspects, was charged with accessory before and after the fact and receiving stolen property over $250. Rose and Diaz were charged with breaking and entering at night to commit a felony, larceny over $250, receiving stolen property over $250, and malicious destruction of property over $250.

According to the police report, the thief who entered through the side window went directly to a locked glass case in the center of the store where the higher-end jewelry was displayed, smashed the case and grabbed rings and earrings, many of which were set with valuable gemstones. Christine Meegan, who has operated the jewelry store 25 years, said the value of the stolen jewelry was approximately $65,000.
