Jazz and standards singer Diana Krall will appear for one night at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis tonight at 8 p.m. Local jazz guitarist Fred Fried will open. The show is sold out but fans can catch Krall’s sound on her latest CD, “From This Moment On.”

Canadian-born Krall has made an international reputation for her smoky voice and arrangements that give a new twist to songs that have been recorded and hits by so many before her. Her musical career started when she starting playing piano and singing in restaurants in British Columbia at 15. She won scholarships from the Vancouver International Jazz Festival that sent her to Berklee College of Music.

She moved on to Los Angeles and later to New York as she worked her way up the musical ladder. In 2003 she married British rock musician Elvis Costello.

She has released 11 CDs, all in the jazz-lounge genre with her playing the piano and singing in her distinctive style. Her past CDs have borrowed heavily from the era of songmaking that saw Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald setting the standard for what would later be known as the Great American Songbook.

Her latest CD, “From This Moment On,” continues that tradition but has a larger than usual number of upbeat songs. When this album was released she commented on that, saying it was because she was in such a happy place in her life with her marriage and soon-to-come arrival of their first child — which turned out to be twins.

The CD features the Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra and Krall’s quartet on 11 tracks including “It Could Happen to You,” “Exactly Like You,” “Willow Weep for Me” and of course “From This Moment On.”

The CD was produced by Krall and Tommy LiPuma.
