Schneider lied about “Oprah”
Banner Daily Update posted Thurs. Aug. 16
PROVINCETOWN – Tourism director Bill Schneider has admitted he lied when he claimed Oprah Winfrey had selected his recent book, “Crossed Paths,” for her book club.
Schneider also claimed he had been interviewed on the Oprah Winfrey Show in May about his book, which he self-published. However, a spokesperson for the popular television show said Schneider had neither been invited to be on the show or had his book picked for the book club, saying Schneider “misrepresented” himself.
Schneider admitted the falsehood, calling it “an error in judgment” but wanted to publicize his story of a doomed relationship between two gay men.
Schneider also claimed he had been interviewed by Oprah for his first book, “Second Chapter,” but the interview was so bad it never aired. His website, which had posted a five-page transcript that he said was from his Oprah interview this spring, recently removed the transcript.
Schneider said earlier this month that “Crossed Paths” was being made into a feature film and producers wanted him to write the screenplay. He was not available for comment today to verify whether that story is true.
