This past weekend was one of the most beautiful of the year but that didn’t mean that police and rescue weren’t busy on the Outer Cape.

On Saturday, a kayaker found the brisk winds too much to contend with in the harbor and two separate bike accidents on Sunday in the Cape Cod National Seashore led to head injuries that required treatment and transport to Cape Cod Hospital.

The kayaker had gone out into the harbor from the Beach Point area of Truro and had not returned by late afternoon. At around 5 p.m. police and the Coast Guard started a search of the area but did not find the woman.

A Provincetown rescue unit was standing by on MacMillan Pier watching the searchers when one of them spotted someone out on the breakwater beyond the end of the pier. A privately owned inflatable got the woman off the breakwater and transferred her to the boat of an off-duty paramedic who brought her to the town float.

She was checked out for injuries and hypothermia at the scene but did not require further treatment. She was then reunited with her parents at the pier.

On Sunday, a man was injured in a bike incident on the Seashore bike path near the municipal airport. He sustained a head injury and after having his neck immobilized to prevent further injury was transported by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital.

In a separate incident that happened almost immediately after the first bike accident, a woman was injured near Herring Cove Beach. The rescue squad responded and treated her at the scene. Her injuries were less serious but she was also taken to CCH.

Tim Caldwell from Cape Wide News contributed to this report.
