WELLFLEET — Dayna Grzywoc, 57, of Truro was killed Tuesday evening in a serious car crash on Route 6 near Cottontail and Paine Hollow roads in Wellfleet. The accident took place around 5:30 p.m.
Witnesses on the scene prior to the arrival of police and rescue say a J.D. Daddario box truck and a late model dark blue Pontiac coupe collided with sufficient force to remove the truck’s rear tires.
Grzywoc, the driver of the Pontiac Sunfire, was initially described by responders as non-responsive, and although a Medflight was called for by rescue in the first few minutes it was soon cancelled. Mutual aid was also called for but then cancelled. She was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, Helmut Bryant, 45, of East Falmouth was not injured.
Drivers on Route 6 were urged to seek alternate routes around the area on the ocean side roads off the highway.
The accident remains under investigation by the Wellfleet police and State Police Truck Team.
