Due to the impending storm, check ahead for cancellations of Saturday events.
A ’60s Music Café kicks off a busy weekend Friday at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, 307 Old Main St. in South Yarmouth. DJ Frank Mitchell plays hits from the ’60s for dancing and listening from 8 to 10:30 p.m. The event is for adults who are invited to bring their own beverages. Admission is $10.
To get a sample of visual culture come to the Cultural Center early between 6 and 8 p.m. when there will be an opening reception for an exhibit of paintings and mixed media works by Diane Soule, who will be on hand to discuss her process. The opening is free and refreshments will be served.
A celebration of the Celtic New Year gets under way at the center Saturday at 7 p.m. when harpist, singer and storyteller Áine Minogue presents a program rich in Irish music, mythology and poetry, with a sense of humor. Admission to this event is $12 to $15. The weekend wraps up with a performance Sunday at 4 p.m. by members of the Outer Cape Chorale Chamber Singers. Admission to this concert is $10 to $12. Class cost is $75 for members of the Cape Cod Technology Council, $95 for non-members. Lunch is included.
A moviemaking course is also available at Cape Tech on Nov. 3: a half-day morning class will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon for students in grades 5-6, and a half-day afternoon class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. for students in grades 7-8. Students will learn to produce a movie using photos from the Internet or from their own artwork. The cost for these classes is $59 for CCTC members, $69 for non-members.
