Mailer burial today
Banner Daily Update Tues. Nov. 14
By Sue Harrison Banner Staff
In order for the many friends of Norman Mailer in his adopted home of Provincetown to say goodbye to him personally, the family held a public visitation at Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, in Provincetown on Monday. They announced later that evening that he would be buried in Provincetown Tuesday afternoon in a private ceremony.
Visitation on Monday was attended by Norman's nine children and ten grandchildren as well as nearly 200 close friends. Large photographs taken throughout his life were set up in the funeral home's three rooms and white lilies and other flowers flanked the open mahogany casket.
Norris Church Mailer said her husband was being buried in his favorite outfit, a combination of sweat pants, a burgundy shirt and the fleece vest he was given by Russell Crowe on the set of Cinderalla Man.
Details about the burial are unavailable but it will be private, again only attended by family and close friends.
Two public memorials are planned for later dates in New York City and Provincetown.
