BANNER DAILY UPDATE

Police bust up house party

Banner Daily Update Fri. Mar. 21

TRURO — A riotous house party came to an abrupt end Thursday morning when Truro police arrested 13 teenagers at 454 Shore Road. Police found 118 bottles of beer and liquor in the residence, as well as a broken window and other evidence that the home had been ransacked. A scuffle ensued when two of the kids resisted arrest, and pepper spray was used to subdue one of them, Police Chief John Thomas said.

All 13, three of them juveniles, were taken to the police station and booked. Wellfleet Police and Park Rangers then assisted the Truro force in transporting the prisoners to the courthouse in Orleans, where they were arraigned on charges of breaking and entering, malicious destruction of property over $250, possessing alcohol as minors, and assault and battery on a police officer. The kids were from the Milton area, police said.

Truro Police Officer Craig Danziger and Sgt. Kyle Takakjian led the investigation. Tipped off by the owner of Dutra's Market, who had grown suspicious when two young males attempted to purchase alcohol from the store at 8:30 in the morning, Danziger tracked down their vehicle at 454 Shore Road and heard a disturbance in the house. Soon he, Takakjian, and Provincetown Police Officers Rachel Peters and Monica Himes were busting up the party that had started at 10 p.m. the night before. They found marijuana at the scene as well as a substantial supply of alcohol, and two of the teens were passed out.

Police said the minors had broken into the house, which belongs to a relative of one of them. They were reportedly taking advantage of a four-day weekend that started with a professional development day at school on Thursday and then Good Friday.

The Barnstable County Sheriff's Department also assisted with the incident as the logistics of handling the crowd of prisoners proved challenging to the Truro Police Dept.

"Mainly we needed help transporting them," said Chief Thomas. "You can only fit two in a car."
