PROVINCETOWN — Five candidates have returned nomination papers for the June 3 special election to fill former selectman Pam Parmakian’s seat. They join five candidates vying for two seats in a slightly earlier election on May 6.
The May election is the regular election for the seats of Michele Couture and Lynn Davies. Couture is seeking re-election, Davies is not. Also running in that election are Bryan Green, David Cleveland, George Bryant and Elaine Anderson.
The June 3 election fills a seat formerly held by Parmakian who resigned on March 19 after serving 10 months as selectman. She said she resigned in order to pursue her career as a housing advocate, a job that often required her to step down when housing issues came before selectmen.
Running for that seat are Keith Amato, finance committee member David Bedard, parking department administrator Patricia Benatti, Bryan Green who is also running in the earlier election, and former police chief Ted Meyer.
The Banner is running selectman candidate profiles in the April 17 and April 24 issues for the May election. Profiles of the June candidates will be a later issue.
A candidates’ night covering hopefuls for both elections will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Provincetown High School auditorium on Thursday, April 24.
