PROVINCETOWN – Only a week after quitting as the town’s recreation director, Tracy Trewhella has withdrawn her resignation.
Town manager Sharon Lynn said Trewhella would resume her duties managing the town’s recreation programs immediately. Lynn said both she and Trewhella had received numerous calls from parents asking that Trewhella stay on as director.
“We’ve got 70 kids starting [summer recreation programs] in six weeks. She realizes it wasn’t the best time for her to resign,” Lynn said.
The assistant recreation director, Brandon Motta, has spoken with Lynn about assuming the director’s position. However, Motta was not ready to take over, Lynn said.
Trewhella came to Lynn to withdraw her resignation earlier this week. Lynn said, adding that she was happy to take her back.
“We really need the credibility Tracy has. Her commitment is to the town and to the program,” Lynn said.
Trewhella is under investigation by the state for allegedly sexually harassing a former recreation department employee, Laurie Roles. She told Lynn last week when she resigned that expectations for the job didn’t match what she had expected when she assumed the director’s position in November 2006.
