Mary P. Roderick shows off one of her trademark “bottle dolls.”
In the News

Last week she received a birthday card from the President of the United States, and the corners and coffee tables in her pink-shuttered house on Conant Street are crowded with bouquets of flowers. Aside from these clues you would never guess that Mary P. Roderick — “Mary P.,” to many — is about to turn 100 years old. She will celebrate that milestone tomorrow, March 3, in between card-playing with the residents of the Cape End Manor, sewing gingham dresses for the dolls she makes by hand and the many other things that keep her as busy and cheerful as a butterfly. (Read the rest of this story in this week’s Banner.)

In Provincetown: Warrant for Town Meeting looks at high school, Cape End Manor deficits and zoning along with usual articles and a call for an end to the war in Iraq; selectmen okay Manor override of $350K; laundry deal would also bring sewer to new housing project and possibly the Grand Union; Provincetown wants to buy Truro wellfield site but Truro would rather look at a long-term lease option; fishermen oppose 3.5% hike in fees at pier; parking fees set to rise; Pierce indicted on rape charges; scallop fishermen say proposed regs favor big boat fisheries that strip the resource leaving the small boat owners out in the cold.

In Truro: On again off again Post Office deal may be back on the table for consideration; school committee expresses concerns over possible closing of Provincetown High School and how that would affect over 50 Truro students now attending PHS.

In Wellfleet: fire chief hopefuls go through rigorous assessment exercise as candidates for job are pared down to three; selectmen reject charter amendments but changes may be petitioned and appear on warrant regardless.

In Eastham: The proposed partial water system is being withdrawn from consideration but a full town-wide system may be looming on the horizon; CPA funds will go to historic preservation, affordable housing and recreation; flex route bus service to begin in June.
