2006 local election results
Outer Cape voters followed the lead of the state-wide Massachusetts vote, putting Deval Patrick into the governor’s mansion and handing Senator Ted Kennedy his eighth term.
In local races, Provincetown’s Sarah Peake won the Fourth Barnstable District seat vacated by Shirley Gomes, besting Republican challenger Aaron Maloy by a margin of 58-40 percent.
At the county level, incumbent William Doherty won reelection as county commissioner by a 53-47 percent margin. In the Barnstable County Delegate races, George Bryant won reelection as Provincetown’s representative over challenger Cheryl Andrews by a margin of only 65 votes. In Wellfleet, results of the race between Roger Putnam and Sheila Lyons had not been announced as of press time; while in Truro, Frederick Schlipp ran unopposed, as did Frederick Fenlon in Eastham.
In the local congressional race, William Delahunt won reelection as the 10th District congressional representative. Meanwhile, Robert O’Leary won reelection as Cape & Islands District Senator by almost a two-to-one margin over the Republican candidate,
Ricardo Barros.
