Rising addition will streamline vineyard’s operations

TRURO — You may have noticed, driving by the Truro Vineyard, that it is in the midst of constructing a major addition, and one that appears to be going up quite fast.
“We decided to move all wine operations into one building,” says Kristen Roberts, in charge of sales and marketing at the family-run operation. Until now, she says, they made the wine in the old barn, transported it to the garage for bottling and then carried the bottles downstairs for storage. When construction is complete in June there will be a separate, high-ceilinged room for the tanks and winemaking, a state-of-the-art barrel room and a large, 52 x 52 new storage barn.
The Roberts family purchased the vineyard a year ago. Patriarch Dave Roberts, retired as CEO of United Liquors, and his wife, Kathy, are the general managers. Their son, Dave, a former brewer, assists in the management and winemaking. Daughter-in-law Amy is responsible for finance and administration and both daughters — Kristen and Stephanie — take charge of their own specialties. “It was a great first year,” Kristen said. “The community was wonderful.”
The new addition was designed by S.M. Parsons, an architect out of Brighton. Truro’s Art Hultin is the construction manager.
The vineyard is closed for the season right now, though they continue to sell wines and merchandise through their website.
