Michael C. Leary, 37
Computer systems salesman was accomplished swimmer BANNER STAFF
Michael C. Leary, 37, a San Diego resident who grew up in Provincetown, died May 24 of a heart attack.
Mr. Leary was born in Weymouth and raised and educated in Provincetown. After high school he moved to San Diego, Calif., where he worked as a sales team leader for DataQuick Information Systems. He received his degree in history from San Diego State University last year.
He was an avid swimmer and belonged to the UCSD Masters Swimming program, and had served as president of the La Jolla Cove Swim Club.
Also enthusiastic about ocean swimming, he once swam from Alcatraz Island to the Marina Green in San Francisco and from Huntington Beach to San Diego without a wetsuit.
Survivors include his father, Michael C. Leary Sr., and stepmother, Sandra, of Belleville, Ill.; brother Brian Leary of Kingston; stepbrothers Todd Leary of Lincoln, Neb. and Jason Leary of Belmont; and grandmother Gertrude Spagnoli of Agawam.
A memorial service was held in Hingham July 15.
