David B. Rowlings, 56

Former vice president of Seamen’s Bank, active in community

David B. Rowlings, 56, of Chatham died at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
He was the husband of Diane (Kendrick) Rowlings.

Mr. Rowlings was born in Boston, and raised and educated in Hingham. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a BA in economics, and was a member of the Coast Guard reserve from 1969 to ’75.

He started his banking career working for Shawmut Bank in Boston and Cambridge, then moved to Baybank in New Bedford Guaranty First Trust Co. in Belmont, and Sandwich Cooperative Bank as successor to Shamut Bank, which became Compass Bank in Falmouth and Chatham. He then went to work for Seamen's Bank in Provincetown in 1999. He worked there until 2003, when illness forced him to retire. While at Seamen's he was vice president and head of the commercial loan department, and a member of the Seamen's Bank Eastham Building Committee.

He was active in community affairs. He served as treasurer for the Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod, was a member of the Loan Review Committee for the Lower Cape Cod Community Development Corp., and was an active supporter of Lower Cape affordable housing projects as a member of the Cape Affordable Housing Loan Consortium. And a past member of the Chatham Rotary Club. Dave initiated the creation of a partnership between the Cape Cod Children's Place and Seamen's Bank in order to provide a satellite daycare facility on the Lower Cape.

He enjoyed hiking, riding ATVs and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed very much his cabin in Maine, which he built.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Stephanie Rae of Harwich; sisters Beverly Smith of Hingham and Virginia Jackson of Melvin Village N.H.; two grandchildren, four nieces, two nephews and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A fiuneral service was held Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Chatham. Burial was in Union Cemetery.
