John C. Hurd Sr., 62

Former policeman, truck driver,
grew up in Truro


John C. Hurd Sr., 62, of Truro, died Sunday, Jan. 2, at Mass. General Hospital in Boston.

He was the husband of Cynthia Slade of Truro.

Mr. Hurd was born in Waterville, Me. He moved to Truro as a young boy and attended Provincetown schools. For many years, he was a member of both the Truro and Provincetown police depts. Most recently, he worked as a truck driver for John F. Noons Inc. in North Truro. He was very family oriented and devoted to his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Anne M. Daigle of Windham, Me., John C. Hurd Jr. of Orange Park, Fla., Steven R. Hurd of Franklin, David R. Hurd of Raymond, Me., and Richard Hurd of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Diane N. Ryan of Wilmington; two brothers, Robert E. Hurd of Acton and William C. Costa of Eastham; the mother of his children, Ruth Anne Hurd of Lewiston, Me.; and eight grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Peter the Apostle Church at noon Friday, Jan. 7. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that an act of kindness or an expression of love to someone near or far be shared.
