Peter Thomas, 86
Retired sales manager, summer resident
Peter Thomas, 86, long-time Provincetown summer resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, at his home in Worcester.
He was the husband of Isabel (Menengas) Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was born on March 26, 1918, in Worcester, where he also attended school. He served in the U.S. Army in the 9th Infantry Division during WW II. He was twice wounded during his Army service and was in the third wave of the Invasion of Omaha Beach. He was one of the rare survivors of the first few waves of soldiers and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars.
For most of his working career, 1962 to 1987, Mr. Thomas worked at Sears Roebuck, where he became a sales manager. He and his wife married on Oct. 25, 1950. She was a Provincetown native and they spent summers in town since they married. After retiring from Sears, he worked during the summers as a parking lot attendant at the Municipal Parking Lot and Grace Hall Lot.
He loved his summers in Provincetown and the people he met here.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dennis P. Thomas of Worcester and Steven N. Thomas of Ketchikan, Alaska; a daughter, Alana J. Thomas of Worcester; three grandchildren, Carleen Trafecante of Worcester, Michael Trafecante of Huntington, Conn. and Derrick Trafecante, also of Worcester; plus eight great grandchildren and four brothers. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Ann Currier of Worcester.
