Retired meat cutter, Army veteran
Arthur M. Ventura, 78, of Provincetown died Thursday, Jan. 20, in the Cape End Manor after an illness.
Born in Provincetown, son of the late Joseph and Emma (Perry) Ventura, he was a graduate of Provincetown High School. He was a retired meat cutter for the A&P market, where he worked for most of his life.
In high school he was an outstanding athlete, and was the first person to make a basket in the Boston Garden, which occurred during a high school tournament. A WW II Army veteran, he served in both Italy and Germany.
Mr. Ventura was a member of the Lewis A. Young Post #3152 VFW. He enjoyed bingo, dancing, bowling and loved Boston sports.
A daughter, Cathan Ventura of Wellfleet, survives him. A brother, Francis Ventura of Provincetown, predeceased him in 2003.
The funeral was scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 26, from the McHoul Funeral Home, Harry Kemp Way and Howland Street, Provincetown with a calling hour from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 am in the Monsignor Duarte Chapel at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Jerome Smith Road, Provincetown. Burial will be private.
