Arthur D. Hebert, 97
WW II veteran, owned North Truro cottages
Arthur D. Hebert, 97, of North Truro died Wednesday at the Cape End Manor, Provincetown.
Born in the Three Rivers section of Palmer, he was raised and educated in Holyoke. He was the husband of the late Marjorie Burnett Hebert, who died in 1976, and also the late Dorothy Grant Hebert, who died in April 2005.
Mr. Hebert managed the refrigeration service department for the Tarbell-Watters Co. in Springfield, and worked as a construction service representative for the Crosby, Bendex and Philco corporations. In 1971 he and his wife, Marjorie, bought the Southwind Court Cottages in North Truro. In 1978, they retired to their bay-view home in North Truro.
A WW II Army veteran, he served in the Philippines.
He was a member of the Christian Union Church in North Truro, where he cooked, served congregate meals and also cooked for the Meals on Wheels program. He liked the Truro beaches, sport fishing, bowling, gardening, crafting leaded glass and bird watching. He also enjoyed his family and friends.
Mr. Hebert was an active member of American Legion Post no. 325 in Holyoke, the Lewis A. Young Veterans of Foreign Wars Post no. 3152, the Eastham-Orleans Elks Lodge, King Hiram' s Masonic Lodge, and was a past member of EPAC Grotto. He was active in the Chicopee Civil Defense organization and became director of civil defense for Truro.
He is survived by a daughter, Ginger Hebert Tittsworth Stranger, and son-in-law, Bert Stranger, of North Truro; two grandsons, Wayne and Martin Tittsworth, both of Independence, Mo.; plus five great grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, as well as many close friends, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to the Truro Council on Aging/ Beatrice Raisin Fund, P.O. Box 500, Truro, MA 02666.
