Ralph Warren Davis, 80
South Wellfleet summer resident
Ralph Warren Davis Jr., 80, of Wollaston and South Wellfleet died Sunday at his home in Wollaston after a long illness. Born in Newton, Mr. Davis was a lifelong resident of Quincy.
He was a graduate of Quincy High School and attended Wentworth Institute of Boston. He was a World War II Army Veteran receiving the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the invasion of Normandy. He was also captured during the Battle of the Bulge and was held as a prisoner of war for six months in Lipsig, Germany, before being released.
He worked as an installation engineer for the former Pneumati Scale Corp. of Quincy for 41 years retiring in 1988. After his retirement he enjoyed spending time at his home in South Wellfleet, which he owned for 52 years. He was a member of the Pneumatic Scale Quarter Century Club, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Norma L. (Cheney) Davis; four sons, Mark Chent Davis of Hanson, Glenn A. Davis of Braintree, Richard E. Davis of Quincy and Mark B. Cherry of Wollaston; three daughters, Nonna L. Holmes of Wellfleet, Shelly Marie Davis of Quincy and Cheryl M. Little of Milton: a brother, Robert A. Davis of Naples, Fla., and Lois M. Johns of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; two grandsons and two granddaughters, three nieces and a nephew.
A funeral service will be held at the Christ Episcopal Church, 12 Quincy Ave., Quincy, at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will follow in Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Memorial donations may be sent to the old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
