Ronald J. Boyle, 43

Artist, poet & free thinker

Ronald J. Boyle of Provincetown died Thursday, July 14, at the Windsor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in South Yarmouth after an illness. He was 43.

Born in Everett, he was the son of the late Peter Boyle. He graduated from Newman Prep in Boston. Mr. Boyle lived in Boston, Hingham and Palm Springs, Calif., before moving permanently to Provincetown.

An artist and poet, he was known by his friends as a free spirit and adventurer. He was compassionate and loved animals, especially his two pugs, Bubba and Bertha. He was also known for his keen sense of humor.

He is survived by brothers Donald Vincent and Robert Newton, both of Biddeford, Maine, and Steven Newton of Alabama; an uncle, Jack Boyle of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; his surrogate mother since age 5, Suzanne FitzGerald of Bar Harbor, Maine; as well as his many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House, 236 Commercial St., Provincetown. Family and friends are invited to attend.

Memorial donations may be made to the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod, P.O. Box 1522, Provincetown, MA 02657, or the Carrie A. Seaman Animal Shelter, 334 Commercial St., Provincetown, MA 02657.
