Florence Louise “Flo” (Enos) Burch, 87, died peacefully on Saturday at her home on Shore Road in North Truro.
She was born in her family home on 31 Conant St., Provincetown, to Olinda (Lena) and John Enos and was Provincetown’s first war baby. At the time of her birth, her father was abroad with the American Expeditionary Force and the 102nd Infantry. The newspaper announcement read: “Hasn’t Seen Soldier Daddy Yet.”
Mrs. Burch graduated from Provincetown High School’s class of 1935. During high school she played basketball and was chosen All-Cape center. She worked for many years at the Provincetown Inn, The Flagship and The Bonnie Doone restaurants.
She was the high school sweetheart and wife of Howard W. Burch. They married during wartime in December 1941 in Washington, D.C., and she lived there with her husband, an electrical engineer, who worked with the Washington Navy Yard. The WW I baby had become a war bride and this time the local newspaper heading read, “First World War Baby is Second World War Bride.”

While he was stationed at Camp Dix with Searchlight Battalion Coast Artillery, she passed a civil service examination and was again employed as a clerk stenographer.
Mrs. Burch returned to her Conant Street home to live with her parents when her husband was in Europe, and gave birth to their daughter, Nancy, while Howard was in France with Patton's Third Army. Back at home, the family owned and operated the Sea Surf Motel in North Truro for 37 years. The couple spent 64 years of married life together filled with love, laughter and happiness.
Mrs. Burch served as president of the Provincetown Nautilus Club and was an active member for many years. She was also a member of the Portuguese American Civic League, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of the Lewis A. Young Post in Provincetown, and a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Church. The couple traveled the world extensively with friends and enjoyed many years of golfing in North Truro and Sarasota, Fla., where they spent many winters. During the past few years Mrs. Burch enjoyed the time spent with her great-grandchildren whose antics and energy brought her much joy.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Burch is survived by her brother, Robert (Reggie) Enos, and sister-in-law, Carol; sister-in-law Mildred Allison and her family; a daughter, Nancy, and son-in-law Al Silva; son John and daughter-in-law Nancy; grandson Jason Silva and his wife, Sharmelle; granddaughter Adrienne Burhoe and her husband, Shane; grandson Dustin Burch; nephews Glenn and Scott Enos and niece Stacie Enos and their families.
