OBITUARIES

Alfred ‘Fred’ Frederick Palmieri, 84

Co-founder of the Landmark Inn & Restaurant

Alfred Frederick Palmieri, 84, died peacefully on Feb. 6 at his home in Pompano Beach, Fla., after suffering multiple strokes.

Known by his friends and family as “Fred,” he was born in Greenwich Village in New York City on July 10, 1921. He graduated from the New York Public School system, where he studied watercolor painting under well-known artist Madam Du Prey.

He was exempt from military service during WW II because of a heart murmur, and so Mr. Palmieri moved to Washington, D.C., to work for the General Accounting Office. He immediately enrolled in night school at Benjamin Franklin University and six years later received a master’s degree in accounting. He left government service to accept employment in the private sector where he worked as an accountant with City Service Oil Co. After several years he became an office manager for the Burlington Railroad.

However, his most prestigious job was as a discographer with RCA Records, where he was in control of RCA 's entire library of recorded music and met many of its artists. He also managed Sarinoff’s Dining Room, where many of those musicians dined.

He then teamed up with three of his closest friends and opened The Landmark Inn and Restaurant in Provincetown back in 1972. It was his astute business background and knowledge of food management that contributed to the restaurant’s success. After retiring, he moved to Pompano Beach, Fla.

Mr. Palmieri leaves his life-long partner Vincent Quattrochi, his life-long friend Larry Fordyce and his prized toy poodle Tony
.
He was to be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, N.Y., following a service at Regina Pacis Catholic Church in New York. A memorial service will be held in Pompano Beach, Fla., at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carrie A. Seaman Animal Shelter, 334 Commercial St., Provincetown, MA 02657.
