Mary E. Reis, 87
Lifelong resident known for her Portuguese cooking
Mary E. Reis, 87, of Provincetown died Saturday, Feb. 18, in Cape Cod Hospital after an illness. Her husband, Edmund Reis, died in 1979.
Born and raised in Provincetown, Mrs. Reis was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Margaret (Meads) Souza. She was a graduate of Provincetown High School.
Mrs. Reis was a homemaker and an active member of St. Peter the Apostle Parish. She liked hooking rugs, knitting and gardening, and was an avid bingo player. She was also an excellent cook, specializing in Portuguese cuisine, and she enjoyed entertaining her friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn deSousa of North Truro; two sons, Emmanuel “Glory” Reis of Provincetown and Lawrence Souza of South Yarmouth; as well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A son, Edmund Reis Jr., predeceased her.
A Memorial Mass at St. Peter the Apostle Church will be held in early spring, at a date and time to be announced. Burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery will be private.
