Margaret Roberts, 85

Provincetown native was television producer & actress

Margaret Roberts, 85, of Provincetown, died Monday, Feb. 13, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

Born in Provincetown, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Alcorn) Roberts, she graduated from Provincetown High School where she was president of the National Honor Society. She received her undergraduate degree from American University in Washington, D.C., and her master’s degree from Emerson College in Boston.

From the 1950s to ’70s, she was a producer for the NBC television network and acted in theater productions in New York City. In the mid 1970s, she returned to Provincetown to care for her ailing mother, and took over the family business, the Provincetown Liquor Mart.

In Provincetown, she acted in productions at the former Provincetown Playhouse, served on the Provincetown Board of Library Trustees and managed the Cecilia Francis Scholarship Fund. She was an active member of St. Peter the Apostle Parish.

Known for her inquisitive mind, she enjoyed photography and loved to paint, in both oils and watercolors.

She is survived by a niece, Nora Phillips of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and two nephews, Will Leaf of Venice, Calif., and John Moran of Annapolis, Md.

A Funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown. Burial will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Peter Church Building Fund, c/o Seamen's Bank, 221 Commercial St., Provincetown, MA 02657.
