Frank S. Henrique, 80

Frank S. Henrique, 80, of Provincetown died Thursday, Feb. 23, at his son Dana’s home in South Harwich, after a long illness. His wife of 59 years, Faith M. Henrique, was also with him.

Born and raised in Provincetown, Mr. Henrique was the son of the late Manuel and Pauline (Silva) Henrique. He was one of nine children.
He was employed for 35 years by the First National Stores and worked in all of their Cape Cod locations. He became an assistant manager and set up the new Wellfleet store for its opening. He remained there until its closing. His last employer was B.H. Dyer’s Hardware Store and Beach House in Provincetown. At Dyer’s he always had at the ready a joke or two or three to entertain customers, making sure they left the store with a smile on their faces.

Mr. Henrique was a WW II Navy veteran and was inducted into the “Ancient Order of the Deep.” He was a signalman aboard oil tankers and cargo ships, serving in the Pacific and Mid-East theaters. He was a member of the Provincetown Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad for 30 years, and became District Chief of Engine House 4. He was also a Civil Defense radio operator.

He was a member of the Lewis A. Young Post V.F.W., the Pilgrim Amateur Radio Club, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

His hobbies included carpentry, cabinet making and amateur radio.
In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by his brother, William P. Henrique of Falmouth; a sister, Paula Dietke of Hyannis; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 6, at McHoul Funeral Home, Howland Street and Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown, with Vigil Prayers at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, in South Harwich Cemetery, 270 Chatham Road, South Harwich.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to the Provincetown Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 10, Provincetown, MA 02657 or the Provincetown Fireman’s Association, 25 Shank Painter Road, Provincetown, MA 20657.
