Ruth Evans, 85
Former nurse spent summers & holidays in Provincetown
Ruth Evans, 85, of Franklin, died on Feb. 25 at Milford Whitinsville Hospital. She was the wife of the late Dr. Henry Evans.
Born in Houlton, Maine, Mrs. Evans received her nursing degree from Madigan School of Nursing. She met her husband, a physician, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. They settled in Natick where Ruth became a homemaker, raising two children and assisting her husband in his medical practice. Widowed at 50 years old, Mrs. Evans obtained her real estate license, then worked as a receptionist until her retirement in her mid-60s. A very social person, she enjoyed meeting people and had an optimistic view of life. She also loved reading and learning.
Perhaps her happiest days were spent during summers and holidays in Provincetown visiting her daughter and son-in-law, Luanne and Jim McCollum. A self-proclaimed beach bum, she spent many sun-worshipping days at the East End beach. Her visits became less frequent recently due to poor health from congestive heart failure. She'll be sadly missed by many whose lives she touched.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, Irv Evans, and his wife, Sue, of Franklin; granddaughter Meghan McCollum Fenno and her husband, Arthur, of Norfolk; granddaughter Paige McCollum Enright and her husband, Zach, of Boston; granddaughter Jenifer Evans and grandson David Evans of West Chester, Pa.
A celebration of her life will be held at her daughter's home in Provincetown on Mother's Day.
