OBITUARIES

Ellen J. Stenson, 82

Ellen Jane Stenson, 82, died on Wednesday, April 19, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.

She was the daughter of the late Lallie Deming of Northampton and Henry P. Latham of Farmington, Conn.

Mrs. Stenson was born and educated in Little Rock, Ark. She attended Hendrix College in Conway, Ark.

Before moving to Northampton in 1958, she had lived in New York City, Middlebury, Vt., and Williamstown.

For many years she was an interviewer in the admissions office at Smith College. She served on the board of the League of Women Voters and the board of the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Her husband, Sten H. Stenson, died in 2003. They spent summers in Truro.

Mrs. Stenson is survived by a daughter, Jan Stenson, and her partner, Sue Medlicott, of Whately; a son, Erik L. Stenson, and his wife, Jane Evans, and two grandsons, Samuel Stenson and Lucas Stenson, of Florence.

There are no calling hours. A service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elm St., in Northampton, on Saturday, April 29 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA and Hospice or the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Auxiliary, 30 Locust St., Northampton, MA 01060.
