Kenneth Gordon Marisseau, 79
Provincetown resident volunteered at Center for Coastal Studies
Kenneth Gordon Marisseau, 76, of Provincetown, died peacefully on April 25 at home after battling pancreatic cancer.
Mr. Marisseau was born in Haverhill and was the son of the late Leo and Medora Marisseau of Crystal Lake. After graduating from Essex Aggie in 1948, he served in the Navy in the early 1950s and was stationed overseas during the Korean War.
Mr. Marisseau studied to be a priest and was in the Miner Seminary in Chicago, the monastery in Granville, Wis., and the Benburb Priory in Ireland.
He graduated from Merrimack College where he met his former wife, the late Nancy Adams. He received a graduate degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Mr. Marisseau was a long-time English professor at Mount Wachusett Community College. A fan of musical theater, he performed in many of the Mount’s productions, such as “1776,” “The Music Man” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”
A life-long Democrat, he enjoyed passionate debates on politics and religion and contributing to charities and campaigns.
After retirement, Mr. Marisseau designed and built his winter home in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping, and most recently volunteered at the Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies.
He is survived by his life-partner of 20 years, Tom Hutchinson of Provincetown; four children, Medora Marisseau and her partner, Janis Hart, of Seattle; Ken Marisseau II and his wife, Anna, of Gardner; Myles Marisseau and his companion, Theresa Stark, of Gardner; and Simone Vermette and her husband, Tom, of Methuen. He is also survived by granddaughters Jessica, Nancy and Jacqueline.
Friends and family gathered on April 29 in Provincetown for a seaside memorial on the beach at the corner of Commercial & Cook streets. A reception followed at Napi’s Restaurant.
