Leonard P. Grandchamp
Lenny Grandchamp, 62

Entertainer charmed his audience, noted as ‘Best Song Stylist’

Leonard P. “Lenny” Grandchamp, 62, of West Warwick, R.I., formerly of Provincetown, died May 8 at Kent Hospital, Warwick, R.I., following a long battle with cancer.

Born in 1944 at Mitchell’s Maternity Home in West Warwick, he was the son of the late Paul and Genevieve (Zelazny) Grandchamp.

He graduated from Our Lady of Czenstochowa Grammar School, Coventry High School and Warwick Academy of Beauty Culture.

Grandchamp was employed as a hairdresser at Tiogue Beauty Salon for many years and was the parish organist at Our Lady of Czenstochowa for 19 years. In addition, he was a CYO advisor and counselor at the CYO Center in West Warwick for over six years.

In 1979 Grandchamp moved to Cape Cod, working as an entertainer at The Moors restaurant in Provincetown until 1999, then at Montano’s in North Truro until last year. He also played piano and sang frequently at the Provincetown Council on Aging.

He was the church organist at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown, Our Lady of Lourdes in Wellfleet and at Visitation Church in Eastham.
For many years, Grandchamp hosted the “Close to Home” AIDS benefit in Provincetown. He sang frequently at nursing homes, senior centers, benefits and veterans’ homes.

In the 1980s, Grandchamp won the Golden Gull Award as Cape Cod’s “Best Song Stylist” and was inducted into Ocean’s Inn Hall of Fame, where for seven years his piano bar was named “Best in the Lower Cape” by Cape Cod Life Magazine.

He worked in Madeira Beach, Fla., and on the Regal Empress Cruise Ship for four winters at the piano bar and was also a stand-up comedian on the ship.

He is survived by his sister, Mary L. Murphy, and her husband, Jim, of West Warwick. He also leaves his best friends, Carol Lavallee of Pawtucket and Clarke Simms of Florida; another good friend, David Moorcroft of Florida, and many cousins and adopted family too numerous to mention. In the last few years, he was blessed with a great support group and was very thankful for them.

The funeral was held Friday, with arrangements by the Robert Iannotti Funeral Home of Coventry, R.I. Burial was private.
