George Valentine, 77
Former fisherman worked for USPS
George Valentine, 77, of Provincetown, died Monday, May 15, in his home after an illness. He was the husband of Helen (Silva) Valentine.
Born in Provincetown, he was a 1947 graduate of Provincetown High School. After graduation, he worked for Atlantic Coast Fisheries and then as a commercial fisherman on several Provincetown-based vessels. He was the owner and captain of the lobster boat Valente and the F/V New England. In 1998 he retired after 20 years of working for the U.S. Postal Service in Provincetown.
Mr. Valentine was a life member of the Walter Welsh Council, Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Assembly. He enjoyed sports, especially the Boston Red Sox and sport fishing. He also enjoyed getting together with his friends to play cards at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Along with his wife of 57 years, he is survived by two daughters, Joy Long and Joady Brown of Provincetown; a son, Randy Valentine of Boca Raton, Fla., two grandchildren, Tina Brown of Provincetown and Amber Long of Vancouver, B.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
A graveside service was held May 17 at the Monsignor Duarte Chapel in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Jerome Smith Road, Provincetown. Burial was private.
