Beverly L. Spencer, 84
Owned several shops in Provincetown
Beverly L. Spencer, 84, of Provincetown, died Wednesday, April 18, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
Born in Malden, she was the daughter of the late John and Doris (Kelley) Spencer. Ms. Spencer grew up in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School. She went on to graduate from Mt. Holyoke College and moved to Boston.
During WWII, Ms. Spencer served for over two years in the U.S. Marines and was stationed in California for most of that time. She moved to Provincetown in the mid-1950s and worked at the Moors Restaurant. In the late 1950s, she opened a shop on Commercial Street called the “Nutt Hutt,” which she operated for several years. She was the former owner of the Apple Tree Cottage. In the early 1970s, she became a real estate broker and ran a real estate business for about 15 years. When she moved to the east coast of Florida she continued her work in real estate. She returned to Provincetown after retiring in 1997.
In addition to her many friends in Provincetown, she is survived by her cousins, Phyllis Maxey Snook, of Concord, Edward Kelley, of Cummaquid, and Barbara Bennett, of Yarmouth Port, and several second cousins.
A memorial service for Ms. Spencer was held on Monday in the Provincetown United Methodist Church, 20 Shank Painter Road, Provincetown. If desired, memorial contributions in Ms. Spencer’s memory may be made to the Provincetown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 311, Provincetown, MA 02657.
