Jean Luciani, 86
Former bank manager was devoted to her family & gardening
Jean “JJ” Luciani, 86, of Southbury, Conn., formerly of New Fairfield, died at the Danbury Hospital on Tuesday, April 24, following a brief illness. She was the wife of Matthew V. Luciani.
Mrs. Luciani was born in Danbury, Conn., March 25, 1921, daughter of the late Rueben and Anna (Schofield) Passmore. She grew up in Bethel, Conn., and was a graduate of Bethel High School, class of 1939.
She moved to New Fairfield in 1955 and resided there until she moved to Southbury in 2000. Prior to her retirement, she had worked as a teller and then manager for New Milford Savings Bank. She found peace and beauty in nature and taught many the magic of growing a garden.
She only drank water with scotch in it and enjoyed giving and having a good laugh. She was sharp and had a keen sense of wit, which will be missed at family gatherings.
She inspired many with her positive outlook, and had an exceptional life. She lived by the words of one of her favorite authors, Ernest Hemingway: “The world is a fine place and worth the fighting for and I hate very much to leave it.”
She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Ryle, of Eastham, and a granddaughter, Laurie Roles, of Provincetown; her friend Robert Roles, of Provincetown; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. All were blessed to be with her and say thank you and goodbye to their beloved JJ.
