Donald V. Viegas, 65
Former fisherman enjoyed classic cars
Donald “Boofa” V. Viegas, 65, of Eastham, formerly of Provincetown, died unexpectedly at Tobey Hospital in Wareham on May 19 on his 65th birthday.
Born in Hyannis, he was a resident of Provincetown until moving to Eastham in 1985. He was the son of the late Victor and Dorothy (Roderick) Viegas. In keeping with a family tradition dating back to Portugal, Mr. Viegas was a commercial fisherman for many years, a career he loved until a boating accident in 1989. Following that incident he went to work as a night watchman at Cabral Enterprises, retiring in 2002.
Besides his love of fishing, his other interests were his grandchildren and his “muscle cars.” Although a resident of Eastham, his heart was in Provincetown. He could often be seen relaxing in one of his classic cars driving down Commercial Street.
Mr. Viegas is survived by three daughters, Michelle V. Allmon and her husband Dennis, of Eastham, Arica L. Viegas and her husband Chris Belair, also of Eastham, and Chrystal A. Packett and one son, Joshua J. Packett, both of Mississippi. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 25, in the Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way at Howland St., Provincetown. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to The Shaw Fund for Mariner’s Children, c/o Ms. Claire M. Tolias, executive director, P.O. Box 403, Norwood, MA 02062.
