Edward L. Grayson, 84
Accomplished engineer & businessman
Edward L. Grayson, 84, of West Orange, N.J., and Truro, died on July 5. He was the beloved husband of Lois for 56 years.
Mr. Grayson grew up in Harrison, N.J., and went to Duke University. After graduation he went to work for RCA. In the 1960s he started his own company, called RCL Electronics, which manufactured high precision electronic components. The company eventually went public, and he sold his shares to AMF. He then started Power Dynamics, a company that still exists today, importing electronic parts.
Mr. Grayson and his wife found a piece of land in Truro, about nine acres overlooking the Hopper House, and built a house on it about 28 years ago, according to son David Grayson. The couple would spend three months a year there, and about 10 years later their son, David, built a house next door to them. The property became a family retreat for relaxation.
He was a life-long member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), as well as founder and chair of Retinal Research Fund of Weill Cornell-New York Presbyterian Medical Center.
In addition to his son, David Grayson of Manhattan, he is survived by his two daughters, Susan Plotke of Los Angeles and Marjorie Ferris of Berkeley, Calif.; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Vida Grayson; his sisters-in-law, Laurie and Phyllis Berk; plus 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were arranged by Bernheim Apter Funeral Home, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, N.J. (973-422-0600).
