Joseph O. Theriault, 86
WW II vet enjoyed trout fishing & deer hunting
Joseph O. Theriault, 86, of Truro, died Monday, July 9, at Seashore Point (the former Cape End Manor) in Provincetown.
Born in New Brunswick, Canada, he was the son of the late James and Elidia (Jason) Theriault. His family moved to the U.S. when he was a very young child and settled in Huntington. He was the husband of the late Margaret A. (Cone) Theriault whom he married in 1942, one week before joining the Army. They were married 55 years until her death in 1997.
During WW II he served with the Army in the Philippines. Upon his discharge he enlisted in the Army National Guard for many years.
Mr. Theriault and his wife often visited his son Philip and daughter-in-law Elizabeth (Dingmond) Theriault at their home in Truro. In 1995 he moved permanently to Cape Cod from Middlefield.
Prior to retiring several years ago, he worked as a beater engineer at Crane & Company in Dalton. He enjoyed trout fishing and deer hunting with his two beagles, whom he referred to as “pretty boy” and “pretty girl.”
He was a resident of Cape End Manor for four years.
In addition to his son and daughter-in-law in Truro, he is survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Bill Theriault, of Pittsfield, and his sister, Dorena Martin, of Waterbury, Conn.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Thomas Church in Huntington in August. The date and time were not available by press time.
