Loretta White, 78
Retired bank teller worked for the Bay Lady
Loretta White, 78, of Provincetown, died June 29 at Cape End Manor in Provincetown.
Mrs. White was born in 1928 in East Boston, the daughter of the late Leo and Amelia (Francis) Murphy. Her mother died when she was 18 months old, and at about age 7 she moved to Provincetown where she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Manuel and Caroline Francis. Her twin brother, the Rev. Leo Murphy Jr., was raised by Philomena Davis, also of Provincetown.
Mrs. White worked as a bank teller at Seamen’s Savings Bank. She retired from the bank in 1995. Up until her death she worked for the schooner Bay Lady II, collecting tickets, and in the office at the Provincetown Community Center.
In addition to her brother, she is survived by three sons, Joseph A. III and his wife, Dorothy, of Plymouth; Lee White and his wife, Stacey, of North Truro; Michael R. White and his wife, Kimberly, of Marstons Mills; her daughter, Cynthia Houle and her husband, James, of Yarmouth. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, Adam, Kimmy, Emma, David, Jason, Scott, Ashley, Michael, Meagan, Kayla, Jessica and Amy.
A large number of relatives and friends attended her Funeral Mass on July 3 at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown. Her brother, the principal celebrant, delivered a heartwarming eulogy about his sister. Gately McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown, handled arrangements.
