Ellen Berger, 85
Retired child psychologist devoted herself to art
Ellen Berger, 85, of Truro, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, at home.
She was born in Germany in 1922. Her family fled to Berkeley, Calif., when she was a teenager. She was educated at University of California at Berkeley and became a child psychologist.
She worked as a staff psychologist and supervisor at the Judge Baker Guidance Center in Boston. During summers, she enjoyed painting. When she retired, she devoted herself to making and exhibiting her work in Cambridge and on the Cape. With her late husband, composer Arthur Berger, she was an active member of the Outer Cape arts community. She was a member of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum as well as the Cambridge Center.
Her outgoing social presence and enthusiasm will be greatly missed by her many friends.
She is survived by her sister, Renata Strauss of Seattle, and her nieces, Shawna Kent, of New York City; Jamie Cohon, of Seattle, Wash.; Ellen Feingold, of Newton; plus other nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and many devoted friends.
A memorial meeting will be held in Cambridge in October.
