Lucia S. Enos

Longtime proprietor of Old Colony Tap, Surf Club

Lucia S. “Lucy” (Bocanfuso) Enos, of Provincetown, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, at her home following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Leonard E. Enos Sr., who died in 1980.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Teresa (Marzella) Bocanfuso.

Mrs. Enos moved to Provincetown with her late husband in 1947, at which time her husband and his partner, Herman Janard, started J&E Fruit & Produce Inc. Following her husband’s death in 1980, Mrs. Enos joined with her two sons, Leonard E. Enos Jr. and Robert A. Enos, both of Provincetown, continuing to expand the family business. In addition to J&E Fruit & Produce Inc., she owned the Surf Club and the Old Colony Tap, both in Provincetown, with her three children, including her daughter, Marcia Enos Garvey, of Lake George, N.Y. For many years she was a regular at Monday night bingo at the VFW. She was also a member of St. Peter the Apostle Parish in Provincetown. During the winter months she would spend time on Hutchinson Island, Fla.

In addition to her sons and daughter, she is survived by two granddaughters, Lisa Enos Bennett and Beth Enos Federico; four grandsons, Leonard E. Enos III, Robert A. Enos II, John Peter Garvey IV and Sean Joseph Garvey II; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at St. Peter’s, followed by burial in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visiting hours at Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown, are 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. If desired, memorial contributions in honor of Mrs. Enos may be made to Visiting Nurses Association, 434 Route 134, Building G, South Dennis, MA 02660 or to Neely House c/o The Cam Neely Foundation 30 Winter St., 2nd floor, Boston, MA 02108.
