Ruth Bardsley, 78
Ruth Bardsley, 78, of Chesapeake, Va., died on Friday, Sept. 29, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital in Chesapeake, Va.
She was born in Huntington, West Va., the daughter of Harold and Edna Metzger Sunker. She was a graduate of Capital University, Columbus, Ohio, and attended Ohio State University.
Mrs. Bardsley was very active in the Girl Scouts and served as a member of the board of directors of the Plymouth Bay Girl Scout Council, Plymouth. She was a trainer for the Colonial Coast Girl Scout Council, Chesapeake, Va. She was chairman of the Chesapeake Youth Commission for seven years.
In Provincetown, she was a member of the board of directors for the Heritage Museum and chair of the town’s recreation commission.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Frederick G. Bardsley; two daughters, Heidi Ross and her husband, Gary, of Chesapeake, and Kristin Stoehr and her husband, Paul, of Hudson, Ohio; a brother, Kenneth Sunker, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Christopher Ross, Jacob and Jeremiah Stoehr.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Rev. Otis Colston will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Colonial Coast Girl Scouts Council, 912 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322.
