David Flanagan, 53
David “Peaches” Flanagan, 53, of Provincetown and Florida died Oct. 10 at University Medical Center in Tamarac, Fla., following a bout of pneumonia.
Born in Atlanta, Ga. on March 22, 1954, he was the son of the late Samuel C. and Mary A. (Sanders) Flanagan.
Before moving to Provincetown, Mr. Flanagan worked in health care at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, where he took care of cystic fibrosis patients. He was a resident of Provincetown for about 15 years. Upon moving to Provincetown he changed his employment focus. He chose to work at the White Wind guest house, The Victoria guest house, Stormy Harbor Restaurant, Steve’s Alibi and Bayside Betsy’s. He could often be seen walking around town with his dog Cruiser or hiking with Cruiser along the Route 6 fire road.
Mr. Flanagan moved to Florida about a year ago.
He was an avid reader, reading between two to three books weekly. Murder mysteries by his favorite author, Patricia Cornwell, was his passion.
He is survived by his two brothers, Philip Flanagan of Douglasville, Ga., and Scott Flanagan of Bangor, Mich.; two nieces and two nephews. He was the brother of the late Darlene (Flanagan) Hamrick, who lived in Gainesville, Ga. Among his friends in Atlanta was his closest friend Dottie Brock, who died about two years ago. Locally he is loved and will be missed by many; especially Rick “Mama” Hawkins, Nick Barbuto, George Myers, Bill Svetz and Steve and Betsy Melamed.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held at the Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown. The time of the service was not available by publishing time. Friends are invited to call the funeral home at (508) 487-4470 for the time and date of the service.
