Ruth Clark, 86
Retired nurse was avid gardener
Ruth Victoria (Stead) Clark, 86, of Truro and Hopkinton, N.H., died Oct. 22, in Concord, N.H.
Mrs. Clark was born in Brockton, the daughter of Charles and Erika (Olsen) Stead. She graduated from Brockton High School and the Boston School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse in Boston and as a medical technician for Esso Standard Oil in Baltimore, Md. She married Roger Caverly Tyler in 1942. They moved to St. Paul’s School in Concord in 1952. After her husband’s death, Ruth moved to Hopkinton and worked as a registered nurse at Bresner Tannery. In 1956 she married Ronald J. Clark. She helped him for 30 years in his career as a teacher and a vice-rector at St. Paul’s School. In 1984 she returned with her husband to their beloved summer home in Truro. They also maintained a home which they had built in Hopkinton.
She was a member of the Concord Garden Club and the Bird & Wildflower Club of Concord. She was an avid gardener and studied botany at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, N.H. She was a member of the St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Hopkinton and St. Mary of the Harbor in Provincetown.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Otocka of Greenwich, Conn., and three grandchildren, Andrew Otocka of Nashua, N.H., Erika Otocka of Greenwich, Conn., and Eddie Otocka of New York, N.Y.
A graveside service was held Oct. 27 at the St. Paul’s School Cemetery in Concord. Memorial donations may be made to the Ronald J. Clark Book Fund, St. Paul’s School, Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301 and to the Truro Conservation Trust, P.O. Box 327, North Truro, MA 02652. The Bennett Funeral Home, Concord, is in charge of arrangements.
