Dwight Willson Webb
WW II vet owned small publishing house
Dwight Willson “Bill” Webb, of Cambridge and Wellfleet, died on Nov. 8 on Cape Cod.
Mr. Webb was born in New Brunswick, N.J., and attended Phillips Andover Academy and then Harvard University, graduating with the class of 1940.
He served in WW II as an Army Air Force intelligence officer on Guam.
He was an editor at Noonday Press in New York, then later had his own small publishing house, Webb Books, in Cambridge. He was a brilliant editor, writer, critic and reader, and he will be sorely missed.
He also was an avid sailor who helped initiate the sailing program at the Chequessett Yacht Club in Wellfleet where, with his family, he raced Lightnings for many years.
In his later years, he was passionately involved with the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, both as a trustee and on the writing committee.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy McIvor; three children, Alex, Patrick and Sophie; and one grandchild.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Fine Arts Work Center, 24 Pearl St., Provincetown. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Fine Arts Work Center for a fellowship in his name.
