Frank Reis Jr., 84
Longtime commercial fisherman
Frank Lewis Reis Jr., 84, of Provincetown, died Thursday, Feb. 21, surrounded by family at Cape Cod Hospital. He was the husband of the late Marilyn (Motta) Reis, who died in November of 2007.
He was born in Provincetown on Feb. 12, 1924, the son of the late Frank L. and Mary C. (Cruz) Reis.
He was a self-employed fisherman for most of his life. With his brothers Lewis and Arthur, he owned a fishing boat that they built together called the "Steven R.," named for his nephew, who died previously. Upon his retirement he sold the boat. He then worked tending bar at the VFW in Provincetown. He later became manager of the Provincetown Fishermen’s Co-op as well as working for Seafood Packers. But one of his favorite jobs was working driving a truck for his son's company, Golden Hammer Construction.
During WW II he served in the Navy as a first-class gunners’ mate.
He is survived by his three sons, John "Johnny Mike" Reis and his wife, Joy, of Provincetown, Russell Zawaduk and his wife, Lisa, of Truro, Lee and his wife, Sharon, of Provincetown. He is also survived by four granddaughters, five grandsons and his two brothers, Lewis, of Orleans, and Arthur, of Provincetown. He was the brother of the late Mary Reis and Tony Martin.
A funeral service was held Feb. 26 at Provincetown United Methodist Church, 20 Shank Painter Road, Provincetown, with Rev. James W. Cox officiating. Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown, handled arrangements. Graveside services for the burial of ashes will take place at St. Peter the Apostle Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday.
