OBITUARIES

Edward Shishim, 87

WW II Navy vet was retired tool & die maker

Edward W. Shishim, 87, of Truro, died unexpectedly Monday, March 17, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. He was the husband of the late Jean (McGregor) Shishim, who died in 1984.

Born on June 5, 1920, in St. Paul, Minn., he was the son of the late William and Sarah (Fren) Shishim. Mr. Shishim was a graduate of Venice High School in Venice, Calif. Shortly after graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy, serving in WW II. He remained in the Navy for 13 years retiring with the rank of chief. While living in New Jersey he was an active member of the local VFW.

Following his retirement in 1985 as a tool and die maker from Egan Machinery Co. in Somerset, N.J., a job he held for 15 years, he fulfilled the dream he had shared with his late wife of retiring and moving to Truro. For the last 22 years he has enjoyed life, spending his time gardening, salt water fishing and walking the beach. He also enjoyed watching the different species of birds on Cape Cod.

Much of his time was spent with his longtime dear friend, Carol Cherry, whom he met after moving to Truro.

In addition to Carol, he is survived by his three children, David E. Shishim of Paiona, Colo., Douglas S. Shishim of Pen Argyl, Pa., and Phyllis J. Hoffman of Liberty, N.C.; his four grandchildren, Melinda and Scott Shishim and Amanda and Parker Hoffman; and his brother Walter of Long Beach, Calif. He was also the brother of the late Minerva and George Shishim.

His family will gather privately in New Jersey to honor his life. If desired, memorial contributions in his honor may be made to Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, c/o Massachusetts Audubon Development Office, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773, or through their website, www.massaudubon.org/donate/makedonation.php.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gately-McHoul Funeral Home of Provincetown.
